TIM Wants to Take 4G to 93% of the Population By 2018

TIM expects Anatel to begin releasing the 700 MHz spectrum to catalyze the expansion of coverage.

TIM, with its network improvement plan, had the goal at the beginning of the year to take the 4G service available in 1 thousand Brazilian cities. The idea now is to add another thousand cities next year and 4G traffic is forecast to outperform 3G by 2018.

The main objective of the operator is to cover 93% of the population with LTE and LTE-Advanced in 2018. According to Leonardo Capdeville, director of technology of the operator, the goal was expanded, since at the beginning of the year the idea was to cover 89%.

Thus, TIM expects Anatel to begin releasing the 700 MHz spectrum to catalyze the broadening of coverage. In addition to the 4G (learn about 4G meaning in ABBREVIATIONFINDER), such spectrum should also favor the use of the internet of things in Brazil.

“Even this year Anatel must release 500 cities for use.It may be that in many cities the 4G already arrives at the new frequency “.

“This data (54%) is a potential of the traffic generated by TIM in 4G devices, from which I can capture 35%. If the 4G network was already using the 700 Mhz network, we would already have (Captured) that 54%, “said the executive.

Despite expectations that the 700 MHz will be able to extend the reach of IoT connections by up to nine times, the focus is on LTE.All this because there is a monetization model defined by the operator for the Internet of Things.

“The idea of TIM is to advance strongly, whenever we have available frequency and enabled, that we can occupy,” said Capdeville.

It is worth noting that during the Olympic Games Rio 2016, TIM registered 70% of the traffic in LTE. Currently 35% of the traffic is 4G.
